Principal's Message

Dear Parents

Welcome to the last Term of 2022. The year certainly has held some challenges for both the school and families as we try to navigate the increasing challenges and pressures our society is facing today.

I commend you for your support of our school and encourage you to continue to support each other and those in our community during the weeks and months ahead.

Over Term 3 our school has increased its student numbers and more and more families are wanting to be a part of our St Joseph's communiy. To me this is a very healthy sign, of a school that is building a strong Catholic community in collaboration with each other.

When speaking to our new parents enrolling their children this year they expressed how lucky they felt to be able to enrol their little boy or girl at St Joseph's School, Wauchope. They asked about Religious Education, Sacramental and Liturgical opportunities and spoke about how Catholic Values are very important to them.

Other commonly articulated reasons for wishing to enrol their child at St Joseph's School included; the outstanding reputation the school holds amongst the local and extended communities, high standard of education, good behaviour expected from and displayed by the students, valued history and connection they may have had with the school, friendly, hospitable and close community the school is renowned for.

The comment was often:

We hear so many good things about the school and we want our child to be part of a school such as this. As principal it was gratifying to hear all these positives associated with the school from new and existing parents.  I thank our staff, children and you the parents who have always been extremely supportive, give valuable feedback, suggestions and value education.

I know that not everything goes well in a school. We are dealing with human beings - little ones at that - who are still learning how to get along with each other, however the school is extremely committed to assisting all children and their families. We appreciate when families show patience, kindness and compassion when issues arise. Both the school and families have the same goal and that is that our children grow up to be well adjusted, happy and kind boys and girls.

Please keep all families, who have children commencing Kindergarten or are beginning St Joseph's school this year or next, in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare for 2023.

May the Term 4 continue to be filled with joy and happy moments

Peace be with you

Brendan Kiely

'DREAMING WITH EYES OPEN'

Term 4 commenced with all students participating in the Whole School Write. This is a follow up to the whole school writing a narrative on 'The Door' earlier on in the year.

Students wrote on the stimulus: 'Dreaming with Eyes Open' which was set up in the Library. Teachers will use the narratives to: compare to students' Term 1 writing; inform teaching instruction for this Term as well as keep current data on individual children.

There were some very creative and imaginative 'dreams' written by our students.

Staff Development Day Term 4

This Term the Catholic Education Office Diocese of Lismore have allocated teachers an extra Staff Development Day. The reasoning for this allocation is to do with the major staff shortages and illness during Term 3, resulting from an increase in COVID19 cases, colds and influenza. The decision to provide this extra day was taken to ensure teachers have the time to focus on their teaching priorities with the new Curriculum/ Syllabus which comes into effect in 2023.

Please place this date in your diaries.

Camp Australia - Before and After School care will be operating on this day.

Your understanding is much appreciated.

Staff Development Day - Monday 28 November 22

Sport

Cross Country

To ensure we can hold our competitive section of the Cross Country Carnival within a busy Term 4 calendar, we have had to be a creative. Many events in Term 4 are already scheduled, therefore, we will not be holding a whole School Carnival but will run individual age group trials during Lunch breaks, commencing Week 4. These trials will allow us to have a House Winner & Age Champions for 2022.

As we move closer to Week 4, a schedule on what age groups are running and when will be shared with the parent community for anyone wishing to attend.  We thank you in advance for your understanding.

Assembly

School Assembly

We welcome all families to our school regular assemblies to share in the achievements of the students at St Joseph's. The names of the award recipients will continue to be published in the newsletter prior to the assembly.
