Principal's Message

St-Josephs-logo-294png8.png

Dear Parents
Welcome to the 2024 academic year at St Joseph's Primary School. This year marks our 96th anniversary providing quality Catholic education to thousands of students within the local area of Wauchope.  The students all graduated with our school motto at the forefront of everything they undertook - ‘In God We Trust’.
A very warm welcome is extended to the following staff members who are joining our wonderful school community.

Mrs Alfina Jackson (RFF Teacher & Digital Technologies), Mr Andrew Inman (RFF teacher), Mrs Alison Trezise (Year 1 teacher), Miss Samantha Ryder (Year 3/4 teacher), Ms Josephine Richardson (Year 3/4 teacher), Mrs Lauren Mascord (Maternity Leave returning - RFF teacher)
A special welcome is extended to all new students and their families commencing their educational journey in 2024 at St Joseph's. -
Many thanks to all families who availed themselves of the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher/s and bring the children for their MAI or Best Start assessments.
Added in this Newsletter are "2024 Important Dates".We ask that you record these significant dates in your diary. Class communication regarding the Term will be sent shortly by the stage teachers via COMPASS, please keep an eye out for this in the week ahead.

SCHOOL UNIFORM 2024

All students are required to wear full school uniform on the first day at school. Students can return in either the old summer school uniform or the new school uniform, which we rolled out this week. I look forward to seeing the children in the new school uniform and hearing about the benefits to your child when wearing the new uniform during these hot summer days.
It is important to understand that it will not be acceptable for your child to be wearing a combination of old and new uniforms and that every aspect of the uniform should be adhered to....including the purchasing of our new SJW labelled socks, black polishable shoes and black sports shoes only for sport days.
Students who are not wearing the correct uniform will be required to change into the correct uniform. Parents will be called to the school to bring a change of clothes to the Office or to take the child home to change. Please be aware of all the other forms of uniform compliance from tying long hair back, correct ribbons, small gold or silver ear studs, no nail polish..etc...the uniform policy can be found on the St Joeph's School website.

HAIRCUTS

I refer, especially, to hair styles which may have evolved over the holiday period. As many styles are not permissible during school time it is important to make sure that your child does not return to school with a Mullet/Lines/Fades/Undercuts/Hawks/Coloured or extreme cuts. I understand the difficulties that come with hairdresser or barber trends and from your child's perspective and requests. I assure you, that if you need my support or the teachers support, we are more than happy to deliver the message to your child. All parents/students are required to adhere to the Uniform Policy which was signed during the enrolment process, before acceptance to the school.
If you have any questions or concerns, regarding hair styles or the Uniform Policy, please make an appointment at the Office to speak with me.

PICK UPS & DROP OFF

A reminder to all parents to be considerate when parking within proximity to our school. Port Macquarie Council traffic inspectors regularly monitor the surrounding streets.
By adhering to parking signs and Australian Road Rules, it will assist in improving traffic flow around the school and provide a safe environment for our families. It is the responsibility of the driver to read the parking signs each time they park in and around the school before leaving their vehicle.
As well as obeying signs and rules, ensure driveways are not blocked during Pick ups or Drop off times. It is good manners that we show respect to our neighbours and their property.
As we commence the new school year, it is wonderful to see students enthusiastic and eager to take on a myriad of challenges and set goals for themselves. Hopefully over the next few weeks, they will share their goals with you. It is a partnership between home and school that students thrive within their educational environment.
Wishing you a wonderful first week ahead and I look forward to welcoming you back.
Peace be with you
Brendan Kiely

A New Look for St Joseph's Primary Wauchope

NEW_UNIFORMS_2024.jpg

The New School Uniform

The new school uniform will offer several improvements, designed to address the concerns raised by parents and ensure the comfort, ease of care, and affordability of the uniforms. Our new provider will be Team Spirit in Kempsey.  Team Spirit has been contracted by the school to produce our new school uniforms. Although these will be produced and supplied by Team Spirit the purchasing of our school uniforms will be through the Uniform Shop onsite at St Joseph’s School.

Key Elements of the New School Uniform:

  • Navy and Gold Cotton Blend Polo (Monday - Friday wear): A comfortable and stylish polo shirt the students will wear every day to display pride in our school.

  • Choice of Microfiber Navy Shorts with Emblem or Skort with Emblem (Monday - Friday wear): Practical and comfortable options for both boys and girls.

  • Navy Bucket Hat with Emblem (Monday - Friday wear): To protect students from the sun while showcasing their school identity.

  • Navy with SJW Logo Socks (Monday - Friday wear): Completing the look and reinforcing our school's identity.

  • Optional School Bag: Families can choose either the official St Joseph's school bag or one of their own preference.

  • Optional Library Bag: Students can use either a St Joseph's Library bag or choose one of their own liking.

For Cooler Days:

  • Navy and Yellow Track Jacket with Emblem: A warm and stylish option for colder weather.

  • Navy Track Pants with Emblem: Comfortable and practical track pants for added warmth.

  • Navy Sloppy Joe with Emblem: A cozy option to keep students comfortable during the cooler months.

Transition to the New Uniform

To ensure a smooth transition, the new uniform will be introduced in a phased manner. Kindergarten students starting in 2024, and all new enrolments, will be required to purchase the new uniform. Students in Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 will need to purchase the new uniforms when replacing their existing uniforms. As of Monday 22 July 2024 (Day 1, Term 3), it will be expected that all students will be wearing the new uniform in its entirety and no mixing of old and new uniforms will be allowed.

Old uniform stock is not available to purchase.

Year 6 students/families only - we understand the dilemma facing Year 6 families who may not wish to outlay funds for new uniforms.  The transition period for Year 6 students has been extended to the end of Term 4, 2024.   Year 6 Class shirts are to be worn on sport days and either the new uniform or current uniforms on normal school days.

Purchasing the New Uniform

We have simplified the uniform ordering process to make it as convenient as possible for parents. You can continue to use Flexi Schools as the preferred method for ordering. Uniforms will be available for ordering from Week 3, and they will be packaged and sent home with your child during their MAI assessment in Term 1, 2024.  Students will wear their new uniforms on the first official day of school. To assist you in choosing the correct size, a sizing guide will be available on Flexi School and via the Newsletter. Additionally, we will have a display with sample sizes for trying on in our uniform store. Sample sizing will be available to families, as a staggered approach, with regular Uniform Shop hours remaining unchanged. More information will follow once the new stock has arrived.
